Our School Aims
In order to fulfil our mission statement our school community is committed to the following aims and ethos:
- To be a safe, happy, caring community of learners
- To celebrate achievement, children’s reading, writing and mathematical skills are at the heart of everything we do
- To encourage high aspirations and enjoyment of life-long learning
- To help all individuals regardless of their race, gender or disability to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to achieve their full potential in a rapidly changing world
- To develop understanding of and respect for a wide range of religious values, languages and cultural traditions and different ways of life
- To encourage positive parental and community involvement
- To provide a curriculum that is stimulating, broad, balanced, innovative and creative
Our School Values
Promoting British Values
We believe that values are integral to the ethos at Dallam. We believe that they set the standards of behaviour that we expect in school and help our school community to make the best choice in any situation.
In June 2014, David Cameron emphasised the important role that British values can play in education. Further, how well a school promotes such values is an aspect of Ofsted’s inspection process. British values are promoted through much of what we do at Dallam Primary School, not least through our school assemblies, Religious Education and PSHCE sessions.
This year the School Council worked with all classes to review our school values. They decided upon 6 values which will help to guide our school community; these values complement British values.
They are:
- We persevere, push ourselves to improve and work hard to make it happen for our children and families
- We respect everyone and their views
- We have high aspirations, for our children, families and school community
- We are compassionate and caring and help each other to be the best that they can
- We are fair, we understand others and treat each other respectfully
- We champion our school at every opportunity
- We value our health and wellbeing and look after each other
School Council held a competition to design a ‘Dallam Superhero’ to represent our values and to help to promote them. The winners of the competition along with School’s Council worked with the graphics department at Warrington Collegiate to bring the designs to life.
Every ½ term we focus on a different value which is introduced by School Council in the first assembly back after the holiday.
As well as actively promoting British values, the opposite also applies: we would actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British values, including ‘extremist’ views.

Below are just a few examples of how we promote British values:
Democracy
We encourage children to understand that democracy means allowing our community to have a stake in the decisions that affect them. Children, parents and staff have many opportunities for their voices to be heard at Dallam Primary. Democracy is central to how we operate.
How we promote democracy:
- School Council members are elected each year through a process which includes candidates making speeches and children voting anonymously. School Council is made up from a representative from each class in KS2. The council has its own budget and drives areas of school improvement
- Pupils help to influence teaching and learning through Pupil Feedback forms
- Pupils are always listened to by adults and are taught to listen carefully and respect the right of every individual to have their opinions and voices heard. We encourage pupils to take ownership of not only their school but also of their own learning and progress.
Rules and laws
We encourage children to understand the importance of rules and laws, that they set out how we should and should not behave in society and help to keep our community safe.
How we promote rules and laws:
- At the start of the school year we decide on our school rules together in assembly
- Our school Super hero promotes a safe and ordered school environment
- Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves, and the consequences when laws are broken. These values are reinforced in different ways:
- visits from authorities such as the police and fire service
- during Religious Education, when rules for particular faiths are thought about
- during other school subjects, where there is respect and appreciation for different rules – in a sports lesson, for example
Individual liberty
We encourage children to understand that individual liberty means freedom of choice and the right to respectfully express views and beliefs.
We promote individual liberty in all our lessons through all our curriculum areas. Our pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are taught how to exercise these safely, such as in our e-safety and PHSCE lessons.
Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
We encourage children to understand that mutual respect means treating others the way that you would like to be treated. We are proud to promote and celebrate our different backgrounds and beliefs. Mutual respect is at the heart of our school values.
How we promote respect:
- Our children know that respect is shown to everyone, whatever differences we may have, and to everything.
- Children learn that their behaviour choices have an effect on their own rights and those of others. All members of the school community should treat each other with respect.
- Through Religious Education, PHSCE and other lessons where we might develop awareness and appreciation of other cultures
